ASISTA Immigration Assistance & the William S. Boyd School of Law UNLV

proudly sponsor a One-Day Skills Seminar on

U Visas: Advanced Topics & Emerging Issues

Description: This training will address advanced and emerging issues related to U nonimmigrants, including issues about travel, adjustment of status, waitlist problems, cases in detention or in removal proceedings, and intersections with other forms of victim-based relief. Participants and panelists will strategize on answers to complex scenarios that may arise in U visa cases, including how to address inadmissibility, consular processing, parole, adjustment denials and other topics. This training assumes knowledge of U visa applications and adjustment of status and is intended for those with experience working on U visa cases.

The training is purposefully scheduled to take place before the National Immigration Project of the National Lawyers Guild's (NIPNLG) CLE seminar on Immigration Law and Crimes, Wednesday June 22, and before the annual AILA conference.  CLE credit for this training will be applied for separately.

Special Note: Should you choose to attend BOTH the ASISTA CLE on June 21st as well as the NIPNLG CLE on June 22nd, a dual enrollment discount is available (see below).

The NIPNLG training is designed for both criminal defense attorneys and immigration attorneys who represent individuals with criminal convictions and will include focus on:

  • The categorical approach
  • Supreme Court Developments
  • Changes in Crime of Violence Analysis under 18 U.S.C. § 16
  • Post-Conviction Relief

Keep your eye out for speaker and agenda details for both trainings.

Although we encourage OVW grantees to attend, we cannot offer free admission due to a drastic cut in our OVW budget.  We suggest that OVW grantees contact your program managers to request allocating money from your grant training budgets to support attending this training.
